Working in Partnership with Parents

Shieldhill Primary school and nursery class has an ‘open door’ policy. We welcome parents at any time, but also have many opportunities throughout the school year where parents are invited to come into school.

  • Meet the teacher information night
  • Parent consultation evenings twice a year
  • Celebration events for each class at least once a year
  • P1 Nativity and P7 Burns Night
  • Come to lunch
  • Volunteer to help at school trip
  • Information meetings for parents
  • Parent Council
  • Parents’ Association

Parents can make an appointment to see their class teacher/head teacher outwith these occasions. We encourage you to do so if you have something, however small, you would like to discuss.

We also make use of different communication methods

School website – you can sign up to get e mail alerts for new items added

GLOW – all pupils have accounts and you can see what work they have been doing/homework tasks set

TWITTER @ShieldhillPS

Monthly newsletter – check for forthcoming events and updates. This gets distributed via pupils so check their bag at the beginning of the month!

Text messages – short updates or important last minute information

Parent evaluation surveys – we ask for your feedback annually to help us plan ahead and measure how well we are doing

How to help your child at home information – if you are unsure how something is taught in school

Letters about specific themes

Learning logs P3-7 and homework diaries P1-2 for you to see and support your child with their learning at home

Jotter days four times a year – so you can see your child’s jotters, receive updated information from teachers and comment on them
