Rationale

We want our children to experience a smooth transition throughout their learning, so that the pace and quality of learning are maintained.

Below outlines three key objectives to consider in this process.

· To support all learners to successfully meet the challenge of moving from one setting or one stage to another, including children and young people with additional support needs.

 · To provide an inclusive curriculum that supports and challenges all children in their development and learning.

 · To ensure all relevant information for individual children and young people are forwarded and shared at the time of transition. This will enable all staff to be fully aware of previous educational experiences and achievements which will inform next steps in learning.

The FIVE C's that contibute to a positive transition are

Child centred

Communication

Home to Shieldhill ELC

Here at Shieldhill ELC we value our parents as partners and would ask that families work together with our team to provide the best outcome for the wee people in our care.  Upon visiting the ELC you will receive a welcome pack containing a ‘What matters to me’ booklet, once completed, this will provide our team valuable information to deliver the very best for your child. While your child settles, parents/caregivers will be invited to attend an ‘early assessment review’ where we will discuss expectations and further dates for settling in and eventual start dates.

We would like to invite families to join us on the application DOJO, where we will upload photographs of your children and post regular updates on all things Shieldhill ELC.

Arrangements for transitions are always flexible and take account of individual needs of all learners and their families. Here at Shiedlhill ELC we work with our families at a pace that suits you.
